Abortion

What I am about to talk about is in no way an effort to condemn anyone who may have had this procedure done. It is however an effort to convince women not to do it in the future . The topic I want to discuss today is one of great controversy, Abortion! Abortion is one of the most highly debated issues all over the world. Because it involves 2 people physically and many more emotionally. So i want to take a little time to tell you what i think about some of the most commonly made statements. One of the most common opinions is that the woman who is pregnant has the right to do whatever she wants because it is her body. I say that is a load of crap! Because while the child is inside her body tdonniehe baby itself is not a part of her, but rather a living part of her and the babies father, and that is the part she wants to kill not herself but another living being. And I’m sure that right now there arw a lot of pro choice people screaming at their computer screen saying, its not living its just a fetus. Well you can call it a tomato for all i care the fact remains that a babies heart starts beating. within 4 weeks after the mothers last. menstrual period, and if it has a heartbeat then it is alive. now what is it called when someone kills another living person, no matter what age they are? Murder! So why is it okay for a mother to murder her unsuspecting, innocent baby? Now lets talk about the cruelty comments . I have heard several people say it is cruel to force a woman to have a baby she doesn’t want, I have a different opinion here as well. These days there is more then enough knowledge about pregnancy prevention floating around, so that no one should be ignorant about it anymore. and if you’re not smart enough to take these preventative measures then you shouldn’t be having sex in the first place. Think abput this if a person go’s out and commits a crime they get put in jail, right. Well it could be looked at as cruel to put a person in a cage, and force them to stay there, away from their family and against their will. Does this mean we should open the door and let them go home? No, of course not. They did something and now have to suffer the consequences. The same can be said with accidental pregnancy you know it is a possibility that yoy could get pregnant, so if you can not handle the consequences of your actions then don’t do the act. Now this brings up the question what if she didn’t do the act? What if she was raped? While i can definitely understand a woman not wanting to have a baby that was conceived by rape, i still do not agree with abortion. There are other options, like the morning after pill that can be used up to 5 days after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. Notice i said prevent pregnancy. Many people think that the morning after pill is like an abortion that you swallow. This is completely untrue. It actually does nothing to a baby but prevents ovulation so that a baby is never conceived. Okay as with just about everything else in this world their are a few exceptions to my thoughts on abortion. Numer 1. If there is a real life or death situation and the mothers life can not be saved without terminating the pregnancy, number 2. Incest for obvious reasons both physical and emotional, but mainly the physical state of the child, and 3rd. In cases where the baby has no brain activity or would just barely be able to suffer through life. Cases like these should be the only reason that an abortion is ever performed. Not because a baby would be an inconvenience or make you uncomfortable. That is just heartbreaking, if you don’t want a baby, then give the child up for adoption. There are so many people in this world unable to have children. Don’t kill the blessing you have received but if you’re not ready for it then pass the blessing on to someone who will treasure it. So in conclusion please women don’t allow yourself to be blinded by what society considers okay, abortion most certainly is not okay. I truly hope this helps someone, if it prevents just one abortion then it was more than worth it. Thanks for reading

The issue of abortion is much more complicated than you put it here. It won’t surprise you that a liberal atheist like me would disagree with you, but I’m disappointed that your post was as simple as it was. / On another note, what are the “obvious” reasons why incest — to someone who is against abortion in most cases — is a reasonable exception? What about incest is so “obvious” that someone against abortion, even in the case of rape, is ok with abortion in the case of incest? I’m confused here… / Finally, believe it or not, even though I am usually ok with abortion, there are some abortions that I would find morally questionable, and so, in those instances, you and I might actually agree!

    • With incest comes severe deformity in one way or another, in some cases so severe the child may be born without major body parts or organs.

      • My father had German measles when my mom got pregnant with me. They told her that there was a good chance that I would have some kind of deformity, and I did and it has been a traumatic experience for me all my life. I was born with hip dysplasia that effected PTSD in the early stages of my childhood, first to my uncle and step-father raping me between the ages of 5 to 16. You may not know a little known fact that children with disabilities have a significantly higher rate of sexual abuse than healthy children. They are much more vulnerable to predators. Since my mother first told me what the doctor’s told her about considering abortion, I have resented her ever since. I have attempted suicide 3 times and 5150′d once. Life is a physical struggle from my hip and a mental struggle from the child abuse. I’m taking one for the anti-abortion team….they should be so happy that I’ve spend thousands on mental health, on my dime…not theirs. I suffer daily, something none of you experience a day in my shoes…despite all efforts to live a happy life that I am entitled to…apparently. You can thank my mom for this because I sure don’t.

    • I happen to agree with you dbgb1986. My step-father took my virginity. We all know that conception can happen at anytime a woman is penetrated. Had I become pregnant, I wouldn’t have had a deformed child, but this doesn’t change the fact that I was molested by a family member. I guess it would be ok in the minds of anti-abortionists if I had my step-father’s child.
I did have an abortion once when I was an irresponsible crack head. I weighed 85 pounds and smoking coke daily at the age of 18. I guess having a crack baby would’ve been a blessing that I fail to see as a blessing to that child’s life, a risk I was unwilling to take. This occurred in the first 11 weeks. I had to stop smoking coke for 24 hours to have the procedure. It took awhile, but I knew I was pregnant 8 weeks into it. Not the proudest thing I’ve done in my life, but I never did it again. I don’t regret it.
What I don’t believe in is late term/partial birth abortions. If a woman doesn’t realize she’s missed her period in the first three-months than she is a complete idiot.

  4. You do realize that contraception isn’t 100% right? What would you say to someone who used contraception but didn’t know that it had failed until they had missed their period?
Have you every heard of the violinist case? If someone woke up and found out that they had been attached to a famous violinist against their will, and the doctors said “he’ll die if you don’t allow him to remain attached to you, but don’t worry: it’ll only be for 9 months,” would you say that it was wrong for the person to detach themself from the violinist?
Keep in mind that consenting to sex is not the same as consenting to being pregnant.

    • i would tell them to handle there responsibility, they had sex. if they dont want to keep the baby then give it up for adoption dont kill it. and yes i have heard the whole violinist thing to, and yes it would be immoral to let someone die when all you have to do to keep them alive is not pull the plug. and saying consenting to sex is not consenting to pregnancy, is like saying consenting to smoking isnt consenting to lung cancer.

      • There are thousands of children in the foster care system. Most of them will never be adopted. They will be kicked out of the system at 18 with no support. How does it make any sense to sentence somebody to that life when never existing is a kinder fate?
Yes, the fetus has a heart beat, but it doesn’t have any brain activity. An abortion is more akin to pulling the plug on a brain dead coma patient than it is to murder. I’ve already instructed my loved ones to pull the plug if such a thing happens to me. Why would I want to “live” when I have no consciousness to really be considered “alive”?
You would be happy to find your self unable to function effectively, maybe even losing your job as a result, in order to save someone who has no right to use your body? Why?

      • omg yes of course i would be happy to sacrifice my time to save someones life, because im not a heartless piece of crap who only cares about herself. also brain activity occurs by the 6th week of pregnancy. and even if it wasnt that is not a good comparison because a brain dead coma patient will probablt never come out of that state but a baby will continue to thrive if not aborted

@hessianwithteeth, I am also pro choice, but we DO have to be honest when it comes to the facts: Some fetuses DO have brain activity. It’s a matter of timing. We have to admit that there is a GIANT difference between aborting a one- or two-month old fetus and aborting an eight- or nine-month old fetus. Obviously brain activity does not a person make, but just as a factual note, there is sometimes brain activity at six months or even earlier. / Now, to be clear, every fetus is different, and every situation is different, and I agree with at least 90% of what you post. But I just think that we need to acknowledge facts, even if they go against our cause, if we are to be stronger advocates for women’s reproductive health rights. (I hope that made sense.)

If someone is suffering and requests to be killed, then yes, it MIGHT be moral to kill the person who is suffering, depending on the situation (age, dependents, mental state, other considerations, etc.).

  9. The duplicity of the legal system is also something to take into consideration. There are many cases where if a drunk driver causes an accident that kills a pregnant woman, they may be charged with two counts of murder.
How can this be so if a woman deciding to abort a fetus is NOT considered murder?
This is not a statement or opinion at all one way or the other- it is merely an observation and a question. It smacks to me of the sentiment that a stranger had better not kill an unborn child, but the decision to do so on the part of a mother {should be} perfectly acceptable?
On another note- good on you for tackling such a controversial issue. I always worry that I’ll alienate people with conversations regarding hot-button topics and the like.

Well he was charged with murder, but women do this every day. The whole thing is ridiculous, and idiotic. And If someone wants to unfollow me because I am against the murdering of innocent babies, thats fine with me. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. 🙂

User adequatedad asks: “How can this be so if a woman deciding to abort a fetus is NOT considered murder?”

That’s a good question. From the legal perspective, here’s why:
A man has no right over another woman’s fetus, and it is presumed that the woman will keep the fetus to term, until it is a baby, and until it is born.

So, the law can charge someone with killing two, even if one is not yet a person.

However, when a woman aborts a fetus, if that abortion is consistent with abortion law, i.e., done by the law, then the law allows it because the fetus is part of the woman’s body and because of ROE v. WADE and other considerations.

I’m not saying you have to agree with me and the law on this one. I’m simply explaining how the law is perfectly consistent on this issue and cannot be used as a “gotcha” — but it’s a fair question to ask, sure.

      • Oh, I wasn’t using it as a ‘gotcha’ – I was honestly asking as I hadn’t – at this point- put much thought into it. I know from the low end of the legal game, you’d charge someone with two counts of murder/manslaughter/etc in the hopes of getting ONE of them to stick. I’d figured it was simple trickery in the hopes of nailing down one conviction.

As it should be! People seem to think that what is acceptable in society is good for everyone, even if it is legal, but reality is that it doesn’t make it right and just for all. We live in a world that if you take a step back and look at it from afar, it seems upside down! It’s always refreshing to hear someone like yourself speak for the truth and what is right and just.
