just got home

I have seen a lot of posts here lately about losing weight, dieting, and things of that nature, and most of the people writing these posts are not big people in any way.
I just dont understand what the obsession is with being stick figure skinny, these pictures are me obviously, now the one where i am holding my son was taken 4 1/2 years ago, i weighed about 105. The other one is from like 2 months ago and i weighed about 140. I think i look a lot better in the one where i have a little extra weight on me, I think most women do. I think women were far more attractive when they were a little bit thick, they were voluptuous and curvy, now almost every model or actress is just plain scrawny. I mean what is attractive about seeing a womans bones sticking out. Now there are women who are just small framed and petite, and they are beautiful to, but when its forced it just looks unhealthy. I dont know maybe its just me but i dont think for a second that the skinnier you are the more beautiful you are.
Dont be ashamed of your curves, be proud of em. And if you have always been skinny be proud of that, i just wish women would stop trying so hard to change their self. Love who you are now, whether your thick, skinny, short, or tall, stop worrying about what others think. I wont give up bacon cause someone else thinks im not perfect, and neither should you, you are beautiful just the way you are.

  2. I also prefer that my bones covered well, and agree that most of us look better that way. I like being able to give my kids soft hugs. As long as I can mostly keep up in a game of tag, I must be alright.

    • Exactly, and I understand people wanting to be healthy, but being underweight is not healthy either.

Well said! I am ashamed to say that I ha entry seen my sister in awhile and seen her at my parents the other day, and was shocked that she had lost so much weight! She is rail thin and too thin! She looks like a stick and almost unhealthy which makes me sad, a little extra is good! It’s healthy!

  5. Amen! I like the curves as well. The obsession with the perfect body extends to men as well. It took years for me to be comfortable with mine

  6. I totally agree with your post. I work out just to stay fit. I’m allergic to this size 0 business (thinking about it, anything upto size 2 or 3 doesnt particularly please me 😛 )
I used to be stick thin before and when I look back I really dont like the way I looked.
On a different note, I like the way u look now and back then 🙂

  8. Completely agree, darlin’. I continue to fight the battle of the bulge, it’s true. I’m curvy curvy, but also healthy so should put a sock in it, I know. I’m glad my hubby is not into stick insects, because I never have been one nor shall ever be – ha! Some people just are thin naturally and good for them. In any case, self image has more to do with “self” than the actual image we project. Beauty comes from the inside. You look great at 140, btw! Fab… 🙂

  11. Awesome post. Accepting one’s self can become invariably infuriating when popular media imagery tells you that you’re not the right size, height, or complexion. We have to stop feeding the fears of being totally and undeniably us as we are.

  16. Yes… health, physically and mentally should be a large goal in all of our lives. I’m personal a healthy 130lbs 😉

My concern is in the approach taken to fight off hateful words and unhealthy standards thrown at us my individuals and society as a whole.

One of the high school girls I taught at church, a sweet, vulnerable 17 year-old, is very skinny by nature. She is healthy but can not put on weight. This idea that we must, as women with “skin in our bones”, talk about how much better it looks etc. to be like us, is not the most loving approach to raise our own self-esteem. It hurts those who are skinny by nature (or who are struggling with body image as a whole) and we end up being the one throwing around hatful words.

All women have a unique beauty they posses, heart, mind and skin. Who are we to decide and voice what is beautiful. I’m sure we all have many differences in opinion on what is beautiful. And the practice of voices what we think is beautiful externally might be something we stay away from because we don’t know who is listening and where they are in their long journey of finding contentment with how they were designed.

As women, we deeply desire to be desirable (I honestly didn’t think I was to terribly desirable until my husband convinced me I was… at least to him 😉 )

Out of our need to be desired lets not make our skinnier sisters feel less desirable!

    • If you noticed i said if that naturally skinny or petit women are beautiful to but I dont think women look as good when they force it or go through extreme dieting routines to make themselves what others want.

  18. Hear hear!
I weighed 98lbs before I got pregnant with my daughter. I now weigh 130lbs, and am making no effort to return to my pre-pregnancy size; I look awesome! My 5’9 frame needed to be filled out, and the baby weight did just that.
Besides, no-one should have to give up bacon. That’s just all kinds of wrong!
